The conscription age of recruits is extended to 30 years

State Duma Defense Committee Chairman Andrey Kartapolov said that the committee supported the amendment prepared for the second reading of the bill on raising the age of conscription for military service and setting its limits from 18 to 30 years.

As the head of the Duma committee noted, in the end it was decided to raise only the bar above 30 years. As for the lower limit, it will remain the same: 18 years. On first reading, the bill proposed raising the lower limit of the conscription age from the current 18 years to 21 years. Kartapolov explained the changes by the fact that “many guys want to go and serve at the age of 18.” And the parliamentarians went to meet him, presenting such an opportunity.

According to him, the news will not affect the fall draft of the 2023 fall draft. The new rule is expected to come into effect on January 1, 2024. That is, those Russians who turn 27 before December 31, 2023, inclusive, are not subject to this law.
