The Russian Defense Ministry is considering deploying an air regiment of Tu-160 strategic missile carriers in the Far Eastern region, Izvestia writes, citing sources.
At the same time, as noted in the publication, the final decision on this issue has not yet been made.
According to interlocutors of the publication, in the event that the decision is made positively, the Tu-160 regiment will join the long-range aviation unit in the Amur region.
Military expert Yuri Lyamin, in turn, suggested that strategic missile carriers in the Far East would be used to deter the United States and its allies in the region.
It was also previously reported that the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has received the second batch of new Su-35S multifunctional fighters in a year.
