Queen’s go-to takeaway she enjoys when in Balmoral – ‘Footman is dispatched to get it’

After a hard week of working the daily grind, we all like to treat ourselves to a sneaky takeaway now and then, and it appears even her majesty The Queen is no exception.

Even despite having a wealth of professional chefs on hand to cater for whatever the royal family’s tastebuds desire, even senior members of the family aren’t immune to ordering a takeaway sometimes as a little treat.

The Queen herself is partial to the great British delicacy of fish and chips, and is said to have ordered dinner more than once from a local chip shop during her stays in Balmoral, Scotland.

One royal insider recently revealed the news while talking to The Sun, admitting that while it had indeed happened in the past, it was still very much a rare occurrence for the Queen to deviate from her prepared menu.

They said: “She very occasionally treats herself to fish and chips when at Balmoral,” adding that “a footman is dispatched to get it from the local town of Ballater.”

It isn’t the only takeaway the Queen has tucked into either, with Royal correspondent Jayne Seymour also revealing that the long reigning monarch has also enjoyed a takeaway kebab at least once.

According to Jayne, while in Swaffham, the British sovereign had eaten a kebab from Crazy Kebabs takeaway, although it was never revealed whether she was a fan – or if she had ordered from there a second time.

Interestingly, the Queen isn’t the only member of the royal family to indulge from time to time in something slightly less healthy than usual, with Prince Charles reportedly being a fan of pizza.

Although the future King’s favourite takeaway has never been revealed, he did clue fans in to his favourite pizza topping back in 2019 while he visited St.Boswell’s.

During the visit, the Prince was presented with a margarita pizza from chef Erminio Di Meo, who works at the Hunters Stables restaurant.

Speaking through a translator, the chef told the Press Association at the time: “I wanted to give him the pizza as he is such a big part of this country.

“He was curious, he smiled and I said, ‘It’s a margarita. I believe the prince said, ‘It’s my favourite.’”

Prince William is also said to have a favourite takeaway too, with pizza being one of his top choices alongside Chinese food.

“It’s a real conundrum when it comes to it. Pizza, curry, or Chinese,” he admitted.

From time to time, William also enjoys tucking into a curry, but has confessed he prefers them on the milder side.

During an episode of That Peter Crouch Podcast, William got even more specific as he revealed that he enjoys “chicken masala”.

“Love that, a bit of flavour. I’m not a vindaloo man put it that way,” he added.

By contrast, his wife, The Duchess of Cambridge is very much a fan of curry, with the elegant royal even admitting it was her favourite during a BBC Radio One interview back in 2017.

When quizzed about her favourite takeaway, Kate answered quickly and without hesitation: “Curry, definitely.”
